John Deere $99 Million Equipment Repair Claims Settlement
September 1, 2026 3:07 PM
Individuals who purchased repair services for large agricultural equipment from John Deere or an authorized dealer in the United States between Jan. 10, 2018, and May 18, 2026, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement .
Deere & Co. agreed to pay $99 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company engaged in anticompetitive practices by restricting access to repair tools and resources for its large agricultural equipment. This restriction allegedly forced customers to use Deere-authorized dealers for repairs, resulting in higher costs for repair services and in violation of federal antitrust laws.
Who can file a claim?
This settlement includes both monetary and injunctive relief.
- Damages settlement class members: This group includes anyone who purchased repair services, including diagnosis and maintenance, for John Deere large agricultural equipment from John Deere or a Deere-authorized dealer in the United States between Jan. 10, 2018, and May 18, 2026. Large agricultural equipment refers to equipment John Deere manufactures that relies, in part, on electronic control units. This includes:
- Large and medium tractors (all 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 series models)
- Cotton pickers and cotton strippers
- Tillage, seeding (including planters) and application equipment and sprayers
- Injunctive relief class members: The group includes owners, lessors and independent repair providers. The settlement includes between $293.9 million and $648 million in injunctive relief. Injunctive relief does not provide direct monetary compensation, but it benefits class members by requiring John Deere to provide owners, lessors and independent repair providers the digital tools necessary for maintenance, diagnosis and repair of large agricultural equipment.
How much can class members get from the settlement?
The amount each class member receives from the $99 million cash settlement fund is based on the number of labor hours the dealer spent on repair services for their qualifying equipment during the class period. The calculation is pro rata, meaning the settlement administrator will determine each claimant's share by their total repair hours as a percentage of all validly claimed repair hours. Repairs performed under an extended warranty that claimants purchased are eligible for compensation, but repairs done under a Deere factory warranty are not.
