What Changed Recently?
Warner Music Group Corp. agreed to a $1.25 million non-reversionary settlement of In re Warner Music Group Data Breach, a class action over a 2020 cyberattack on e-commerce websites operated by or on behalf of its subsidiaries. The plaintiffs allege that unauthorized third parties gained access to payment card information from purchases made on those sites between April 25 and August 5, 2020. Warner Music Group denies the claims and any wrongdoing, and the settlement is not an admission of liability.
The court’s August 20, 2026 order preliminarily approved the settlement and appointed EisnerAmper as the settlement administrator. Notices went to class members by email and postcard.
Who Qualifies?
The settlement class is all natural persons residing in the United States who made payment card purchases on e-commerce websites operated by or on behalf of Warner Music Group’s subsidiaries between April 25, 2020 and August 5, 2020. The California Subclass is class members who lived in California during that period and made such purchases. The settlement agreement estimates the class at about 122,295 people, including about 20,741 in the California Subclass.
Excluded are Warner Music Group and its affiliates, officers, directors and employees; people who opt out; anyone who already released these claims in another proceeding; and the judge, the judge’s staff and their immediate families.
How Much Can You Get?
The $1.25 million fund first pays notice and administration costs, then any court-approved service awards and attorneys’ fees and expenses. What remains is divided among valid claims: each class member receives one share, and each California Subclass member receives a second share. The settlement website estimates the payment at $50 for class members and $100 for California Subclass members; the final amount depends on how many people file.
Class Counsel will ask the court for attorneys’ fees and expenses in an amount not stated in the notice, and for service awards of up to $1,500 for each class representative. Under the settlement agreement, no money returns to Warner Music Group; leftover funds are redistributed to claimants who cashed their payments, or go to a court-approved nonprofit if that is not practical.
What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?
The claim form asks for the Settlement Claim/Notice ID, found near the top of the email notice or just above the address block on the postcard. No receipts or purchase records are requested. California Subclass members are asked for their mailing address between April 25 and August 5, 2020 to verify residency, and the administrator may ask any claimant for more information before approving a claim.
What Is the Deadline?
Online claims must be submitted by January 22, 2027, and mailed claims must be postmarked by that date. The deadline to opt out or object is November 23, 2026.
How Do You Take Action?
Claims are filed through the official Warner Music Group data settlement website, which also offers a paper claim form to download. Payment options on the form are PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or a paper check; digital payments must be verified by email or text, or a check is sent instead.
