What Changed Recently?
Zumba Fitness, LLC agreed to pay $2.7 million to settle a class action under the Video Privacy Protection Act, a federal law that limits how companies that sell video content can share what their customers bought or watched. The case is Kueppers et al. v. Zumba Fitness, LLC, No. 0:24-cv-61983-WPD, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. It was filed in October 2024, survived a motion to dismiss in May 2025 and a motion for judgment on the pleadings in July 2026, and the court certified a class and three subclasses on August 20, 2026. Zumba accepted the plaintiffs' settlement demand days later. Notices are now going out by email and postcard. The plaintiffs allege that tracking pixels on Zumba.com sent customers' names and course purchases to Meta, Pinterest and the ad company MNTN; Zumba denies doing anything wrong, and the court has not decided who is right.
Who Qualifies?
The class is people in the U.S. who bought the on-demand (online) version of the Zumba Basic 1 instructor training course on Zumba.com between October 22, 2022 and October 22, 2024, and whose first and last names appeared on order confirmation pages that one or more of the three advertising companies had access to. There are 4,543 class members, and every one of them is identified by name in the court record. That makes this a closed list: someone who did not get a notice is unlikely to be in the class, though the settlement administrator can confirm it through the official website.
The court also certified three subclasses, one for each company that allegedly received the data: a Meta subclass of 1,576 people, a Pinterest subclass of 3,061 and an MNTN subclass of 2,665. A class member can be in one, two or all three.
How Much Can You Get?
After court-approved administration costs and attorneys' fees and expenses come out of the $2.7 million fund, the rest is split into 7,302 equal shares, one for each subclass membership. The settlement website puts each share at a minimum of $229.33, so the floor for each class member is:
• One subclass: at least $229.33 (1,917 people)
• Two subclasses: at least $458.66 (2,493 people)
• All three subclasses: at least $687.99 (133 people)
Each person's notice states the number of subclasses they are in and their minimum payment. Payments go up if anyone opts out, if administration costs come in under the cap or if the court awards class counsel less than requested. Class counsel, Hedin LLP, plans to ask for $900,000 in fees, one-third of the fund, plus $97,350.81 in expenses. None of the money goes back to Zumba: uncashed checks are redistributed to class members who were paid, and only what is left after that goes to the Electronic Privacy Information Center.
What Proof or Notice ID Is Required?
None to be paid. Class members do not file a claim. The Login ID and PIN printed on the notice are needed only to use the settlement website's form to update a mailing address or choose an electronic payment instead of a paper check.
What Is the Deadline?
There is no claim deadline. Requests to be excluded from the class must be mailed and postmarked by December 14, 2026, and objections must be filed with the court or postmarked by the same date. The address-update and payment-selection form on the settlement website is open through January 24, 2027.
